Events | Marks & Spencer Ice Cream Launch @ Greenbelt 5

Wow. It feels so nice to be lying on a bed and not travelling. The entirety of yesterday was spent walking and walking and walking and walking--crazy but definitely fun. One of the things I hate about living in a village like mine is that it's so difficult to get in and out of the place if you don't have a car. And I don't usually have a car. :)) But because I love blogging and it requires that I be in a lot of places that aren't the south, I go out of my way and go to these things anyway.

So one of my bestfriends Trish accompanied me to Makati yesterday for Marks & Spencer's ice cream launch; they had a free tasting from 2:00 pm to 9:30 pm at their (beautiful and huge) Greenbelt 5 branch. And because I am a huge skeptic of department stores going into food, I was pleasantly surprised. The ice cream was wonderful--as with their apparel, Marks & Spencer have managed to put together an excellent array of ice cream flavors.

They were also nice enough to give us bloggers a couple of freebies--a bag and a lollipop. This was especially perfect for me because I brought the tiniest, most inefficient cutesy bag ever made.

Triple Chocolate was wonderful! I'm not a big fan of chocolate ice cream (yes, I have been asked on multiple occasions what is wrong with me) but I quite enjoyed this. The flavors were just-sweet-enough. You can get this at Marks & Spencer for P350.
These two flavors--Caramel Pecan & Blueberry Cheesecake--were my favorites. They are heavenly. I'm pretty picky with desserts so you'll hardly ever hear me say that but these definitely got a 5-star rating for me. The textures, tastes and consistencies of these two flavors were spot-on. You can get these pints for P 475 at the Marks & Spencer Food Section.

These two were my least-favorite ones, although they weren't bad either. Mint Chocolate was alright; it was very refreshing but I suppose I'm just not a fan of mint, in general (except when it's in a mojito). Vanilla was okay too but it wasn't great--I felt like I was eating a bavarian donut; the consistency was too viscous for my taste.  It felt like the clotted cream was strangling my taste buds. Yikey. Definitely the least-favorite of the day--this is saying a lot because I love vanilla ice cream. These both go for 475 each.
I'm so sad that they weren't able to give us samples of their Chocolate Brownie and Cookies, Cake & Cream flavors; I have a feeling they would've been great. But if you want to try these out then they go for P 475 at the Food Section.
The M&S ladies (+1 not photographed man, Ian) were so kind to us and helped us out during the tasting. The event wouldn't have been the same without them!
Strawberry Cheesecake was delicious. Refreshing and tangy enough to not be overpowering but still creamy enough to give you that indulgence I'm sure you look for when eating ice cream. It's also got crunchy crushed biscuit bits on top, which is wonderful. I like this less than the blueberry variation but way more than the Mint Chocolate & Vanilla. This goes for P350 at Marks!
I loved the Caramel Pecan so much that I had to take a picture of it with this delicious milk chocolate lolly they gave us bloggers along with the M&S bag.
I have mixed feelings about Rum & Raisin. I love the rum ice cream and how you're still able to taste the alcohol (Jamaican rum is heavenly!) but I'm not sold on the raisins. I hate raisins. I would love this if it were Rum & Dark Chocolate or nuts, even but I just can't stand raisins. This is also pretty strong stuff so I definitely wouldn't recommend giving it to the kiddos. This goes for P375 at their food section. :)

Over-all I'd give the M&S Ice Cream line a 4/5 stars. :D The quality is great; I almost don't even mind the pricing. My only complaint about this event would have to be that they didn't have water--Trish and I were reeling from thirst after. :)) So that's it! I hope you enjoyed this entry! A huge thanks to Nuffnang Philippines to giving me a heads-up about this.

    1. HAHAHAHA I was thinking of that yesterday actually--fantasies of being stuck in Greenbelt at night and going through pints and pints of Caramel Pecan were playing in my head the entire tasting. =))
